Since 2011, the PhotonLab at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics has been bringing cutting-edge research to life for students. At numerous hands-on stations, they discover the physics of light and lasers, gain insights into quantum physics, and experience science up close – right where it happens. Whether in class or through internships, this approach successfully promotes STEM education from the grassroots level all the way to the top.
Today, the PhotonLab is far more than just an extracurricular learning center: it combines the latest research with modern science education, trains teachers, makes an important contribution to securing the next generation of talent and skilled workers in quantum technologies, and is part of an international network.
The student laboratory has already been honored four times by LernortLabor e. V. for its innovative work. In 2025, under the leadership of Dr. Silke Stähler-Schöpf, it also received the Georg Kerschensteiner Prize from the German Physical Society.
We would like to celebrate this special anniversary with you and cordially invite you on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
