Join the founding team developing the connectivity layer for future quantum technologies — at the intersection of quantum optics, hardware engineering and scalable infrastructure.
Quantum Engineer — Atom Systems
You build and operate the atomic core of the node: cold atoms in optical tweezers inside a high-finesse cavity, from the first MOT to atom–photon and remote entanglement.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate the vacuum system, MOT, optical tweezers and atom–cavity setup
- Implement cooling, state preparation, single-qubit rotations and Rydberg gates
- Generate and characterize atom–photon and atom–atom entanglement against rate and fidelity targets
- Write experimental sequences, analyze data, and improve stability and daily uptime
- Support the transfer of the atom system into the rack-based node
Requirements
- PhD in AMO physics or quantum optics
- Hands-on experience with laser cooling and trapping, UHV, and laser and optics setups
- Experimental control and data analysis
- Independent, careful lab work with a focus on reproducibility
Nice to have
- Cavity QED, optical tweezers, Rydberg physics or atom–photon interfaces
- ARTIQ or a similar experiment-control system
- Experience automating calibration routines
What we offer
- A founding-team role with real ownership of a first-of-its-kind machine
- A new quantum-optics lab in the Munich area
- Competitive salary and employee equity (VSOP)
- Close ties to the European quantum ecosystem; conference and training budget
- English as working language
