MQV gGmbH – Quantum Error Correction Expert (m/f/d)

published since:

The Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) gGmbH (www.munich-quantum-valley.de) is a non-profit organization supported by the Bavarian state government as part of the Hightech Agenda Bavaria. Its mission is to develop quantum computing demonstrators based on superconducting qubits and neutral
atoms and to make them available for applications in science and industry. It fosters the Bavarian, German and European quantum ecosystem by bringing together research, industry, entrepreneurs, and the public.

To reach the main goal of fault-tolerant universal quantum computing and implement error correction schemes both, at the conceptual and the hardware level, we are hiring from January 2027 a Quantum Error Correction Expert (m/f/d).

You will support us in one or more of the following areas:

  • Development of advanced quantum error-correcting codes tailored to the specific needs of superconducting and atomic quantum systems.
  • Development, optimization, and training of decoding algorithms, including belief propagation, minimum-weight perfect matching, and neural-network-based decoders.
  • Design and implementation of fault-tolerant logical operations and protocols, such as lattice surgery, logical measurements and magic-state preparation.
  • Development of infrastructure, tools and methods for the modelling and simulation of quantum systems and error correction algorithms.
  • Close collaboration with the hardware and software teams to build a QEC control stack for encoding, real-time decoding, fault-tolerant logical operations and Pauli-frame tracking.
  • Evaluation of resource requirements and scalability of fault-tolerant quantum architectures
  • Coordination of quantum error correction activities with research groups and startups across the MQV ecosystem.

Your qualifications:

  • You hold a doctoral degree in natural sciences with specialization in quantum information processing and quantum error correction.
  • You have experience in quantum error-correcting codes, decoding algorithms, or fault-tolerant logical operations and protocols. Ideally, you have worked at the intersection of experiment and theory.
  • You approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset and communicate and collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • You have excellent organizational skills, high self-motivation, strong communication skills, and the ability to work both in a team and independently.

What we offer in return:

  • A curiosity-driven, technology-focused research and development environment with an international team of scientists and researchers in the growing MQV gGmbH and its partner institutions.
  • The opportunity to shape the highly dynamic and productive MQV quantum computing landscape in Munich, one of the leading centers for quantum technologies.
  • A dynamic, multidisciplinary environment at the Garching Research Campus, one of Europe's most advanced centers for education, research, development and entrepreneurship with internationally renowned institutes in the field of quantum technologies.
  • A competitive salary, tailored to reflect your experience, qualifications, and skill level within a professional R&D environment.
  • An interdisciplinary working environment with opportunities for further development.
