World of Quantum 2025: Fantastic atmosphere in the quantum community

From June 24 to 27, 2025, World of Quantum, the world's largest trade fair for quantum technology, took place in Munich. Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) made a strong showing with its own stage program at its booth and an expanded ecosystem area together with member institutions, industry partners, and start-ups.

More than 22,000 visitors flocked to World of Quantum last week in summery temperatures. The trade fair, which took place for the third time this year and is now held every two years, has established itself as an important industry gathering for the quantum community and industry with a record 160 exhibitors and around 30 percent growth in visitor numbers. The trade fair benefits from synergies with the Laser World of Photonics and automatica events taking place at the same time.

Munich Quantum Valley showcased the excellent work and impressive development of the research association and network since the last trade fair, displayed exciting exhibits that vividly illustrate technological progress, and also gave interested quantum newcomers an understandable introduction to the world of quantum technologies, especially quantum computing. There was particular interest in the MQV partner network, an alliance of players from research institutions, universities, and companies that jointly promote quantum sciences and quantum technologies in Bavaria and drive the efficient transfer of knowledge from research to industry.

The booth also served as a first point of contact for all questions relating to the Bavarian quantum ecosystem and invited visitors to engage in lively discussions. A dedicated stage was regularly used for short pitches in which scientists presented their work and start-ups introduced themselves.

Large crowds gathered around the stage for the “Leading Women in Quantum Research” tour organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Technology (BMFTR) and “Frauen Verbinden” (Women Connect), as well as for the “Meet the VLQS start-ups” program, where, among others,

Students from the Quantum Alliance gained an insight into the Bavarian start-up scene in quantum technologies. Hubert Aiwanger, State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, was also delighted to gain exciting insights into Bavarian quantum research and was shown components of real quantum computers at the MQV stand. The Bavarian State Government emphasized the importance of Bavaria as a location for the development of quantum technologies at the beginning of the year when it reaffirmed its commitment to the MQV and paved the way for its consistent further development.

The MQV ecosystem at World of Quantum

A selection of member institutes, industry partners, and start-ups from the MQV ecosystem were located around the MQV booth, giving the Bavarian quantum technology landscape as a whole an extremely strong presence. The TUM Venture Lab Quantum/Semicon booth offered the recently founded MQV start-ups in particular a platform to introduce themselves and network within the community.

As part of the BMFTR joint booth, the GALaQSci project, in which the MQV is involved alongside other partner institutions, presented the smartphone game Qookies, which is currently in development, for the first time at its own booth. The “Quanten(t)räume” project, in which MQV is an associated partner, was also represented at the BMFTR booth.
