OHM opens modernized cleanroom for quantum research and additively manufactured electronics

Yesterday, the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (OHM) celebrated the inauguration of its new cleanroom laboratory in the presence of Markus Blume, Bavarian State Minister of Science and the Arts.

On 16 April 2026, the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (OHM) opened its cleanroom laboratory, which had been fundamentally modernized with funding from the Bavarian Hightech Agenda, the German Research Foundation, and the EU.

Markus Blume, Bavarian State Minister for Science and the Arts, emphasized: “Here, a cleanroom is becoming a space of possibilities for the technologies of tomorrow.” In doing so, he also referred to the opportunities and the role of OHM in the ever-growing quantum ecosystem of MQV.

In the new cleanroom, state-of-the-art large-scale equipment will be used for research into micro-optical systems, fiber-optic components, and color centers in diamonds. In addition, novel digital printing processes will enable the direct and material-efficient production of electronic components and functional structures.

The laboratory will serve as a bridge between basic research and industrial application and will promote collaboration with companies in the fields of micro- and optoelectronics as well as quantum technology. As an associate member of Munich Quantum Valley, OHM is making a substantial contribution to the further development and application of quantum technologies in Bavaria and beyond.

Congratulations and best of luck to OHM and the scientists involved in the establishment and future use of the facility!
